Residents of Squamish are drawing parallels with the experiences of Kitimat locals following the opening of the LNG liquefaction plant. As the Woodfibre LNG project progresses on the shores of Howe Sound, concerns arise about potential similar outcomes.
Kitimat residents report that while they anticipated some pollution, the intensity and persistence of operational noise have been unexpected. The noise has altered the valley's soundscape.
“Every so often, it'll sound like there’s an airplane going overhead for, like, the entire time that it’s flared, and then it goes down and you can’t hear it anymore,”
said Frankie Maddison, a Kitimat local, describing the noise accompanying the flare.
