Family members alerted the Houlton Police Department, believing a young woman with special needs had been held captive for a week.
Caleb Thompson, 21, an autistic man from Houlton, Maine, is charged with gross sexual assault and kidnapping. He was arrested on August 22 after allegations that he held the young woman captive in his grandparents' home on Madigan Street while repeatedly sexually assaulting her, according to court documents.
Initially, Justice Robert Langner set Thompson’s bail at $5,000 cash. He was released under 24/7 house arrest with GPS tracking.
On Monday, Langner approved a bail adjustment allowing Thompson temporary residence in a supervised Lewiston care home run by DIRIGO Support Professionals with round-the-clock monitoring.
This supervised living arrangement aims to provide support while ensuring public safety.
