Employees are receiving renewed furlough notices as shutdown enters second month, this time without back pay guarantees

Government Shutdown Enters Second Month

As the government shutdown heads into its second month, approximately 650,000 employees are receiving renewed furlough notices.

The shutdown, which began in October, is poised to surpass the record-setting 35-day impasse from 2018-2019, with agencies sending out new furlough notices every 30 days to maintain clarity between shutdown furloughs and more permanent cost-saving measures.

This time, the notices do not include back pay guarantees, leaving hundreds of thousands of workers uncertain about their financial situation.

The current funding lapse entered its 31st day on Friday.

Author's summary: Shutdown affects 650,000 employees.
