NHSE Planning Guidance on FDP Criticised
NHS England's mandate for all providers to adopt the Federated Data Platform (FDP) has been criticised for being "at odds" with existing policy.
The guidance is "at odds with the existing policy that says you have to consider the FDP but if you already have data and tools in place then you can proceed and not use it"
According to the NHSE medium term planning framework, all trusts and integrated care boards must use the NHS FDP to support elective recovery, cancer, and urgent care. However, critics argue that this pushes a product that doctors don't believe is "up to the job" for patients.
Marc Farr, chair of the Chief Data and Analytical Officer's Network, expressed concerns about the guidance, highlighting the inconsistency with existing policy.
