Valentin Vacherot became Monaco's first ATP Tour singles champion by beating his cousin Arthur Rinderknech in Shanghai.
Vacherot, the world number 204, made history as the lowest-ranked player to win a Masters 1000 event. He defeated four-time Shanghai champion Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals.
The final match saw Vacherot come from a set down to win 4-6 6-3 6-3. Rinderknech won the opening set with 12 winners and just two unforced errors, but Vacherot broke his opponent in consecutive games to lead in the third set.
