Apple is reportedly simplifying the design of the Camera Control button on the iPhone 18 series to reduce manufacturing costs, according to Chinese leaker Instant Digital.
The Camera Control button, first introduced with the iPhone 16 lineup, allows users to instantly open the Camera app and access several camera-related functions, including customization to open other apps that use the camera.
Currently, the button uses both capacitive and pressure sensors underneath a sapphire crystal surface to detect touch gestures and respond to varying levels of force.
It can also be customized to open other apps that use the camera, such as Code Scanner, Magnifier, or even third-party camera apps.
