Jane Scott, the Preston Poisoner
Georgian Preston was shocked when 22-year-old Jane Scott killed her parents.
Jane was carried to the gallows at Lancaster Castle, almost too weak to stand, to hang for the murder of her parents.
She was born into a modest household, one of three children. Her father, John Scott, was a Methodist preacher and shopkeeper.
According to Jane, her parents were kind and raised her well. However, her life took a turn when she fell pregnant at 15, claiming to have been seduced by a local man.
- Her son was baptised in 1821, but his fate is unknown.
- She gave birth twice more, in 1824 and 1825, but both children died in infancy.
After her first pregnancy, Jane began to drink, steal from her parents, and drift from her family's faith.
