The Caribbean sea lanes have long been used for both tourism and illegal activities. However, a change in US policy may bring an end to the pathway of drugs and violence in the region.
In The Bahamas, a new US ambassador is set to be appointed, with former football star Herschel Walker as the nominee. Walker spoke before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, highlighting his business experience as an asset in diplomatic relations.
"I know how to run a business, how to create jobs, how to make payroll. Those lessons translate into building relationships and building trust,"
Walker's nomination comes after a 14-year gap in US ambassadorial presence in The Bahamas, with his appointment potentially marking a new era in US-Caribbean relations.
