Defenders of the Amazon targeted in Ecuador
The Ecuadorian government is moving to criminalise dozens of those who fight to defend the Amazon forest from deforestation, Global Witness has found.
Land and Environmental Defenders in Latin America and the Caribbean, including Indigenous peoples, are being targeted.

COP30 will soon be held in the heart of the Amazon in Brazil, but with less than a month to go, Global Witness has found that the Ecuadorian government is moving to criminalise dozens of those who fight to defend the "lungs of the earth" from deforestation.
