Federal Shutdown Impact on Government Employees

The federal shutdown has reached a critical point, with government employees missing their first full paycheck.

Many staff members, including interns and part-time personnel in D.C., are not working or being paid. Additionally, numerous federal offices across the country have closed, leaving over 700,000 federal employees without pay, according to the Bipartisan Policy Center.

However, a similar number of employees continue to work without receiving their paychecks, including essential personnel such as air traffic controllers and transportation security officers.

The October 24 pay period will mark the first time these workers will not receive any pay, regardless of their work hours.

No money coming their way until Congress reaches a deal to fund the government.
