Federal Shutdown Impact on Government Employees
The federal shutdown has reached a critical point, with government employees missing their first full paycheck.
Many staff members, including interns and part-time personnel in D.C., are not working or being paid. Additionally, numerous federal offices across the country have been closed since October, with employees staying home without pay.
- Over 700,000 federal employees are affected, according to the Bipartisan Policy Center.
- A similar number of employees continue to work without pay, including air traffic controllers and transportation security officers.
No money will be received by workers, regardless of their work schedule, until Congress reaches a deal to fund the government.
This pay period, ending on Oct. 24, will be the first of 10 impacted paychecks.
