City council has decided to include transportation by rail in future planning for transit-oriented areas in Nanaimo.
A motion put forward by Coun. Hilary Eastmure at a meeting on Monday, Oct. 6, recommended that staff look for opportunities to support transit-oriented development centres, including Country Club and Woodgrove, with clear connections to the rail system.
“We’re doing this review right now. We’re working on these transit-oriented development centres,”
Eastmure said. The motion aims to create policies that support transit-oriented development, recognizing the corridor's potential for interurban light rail and active transit.
