Girls Golf: Dakota's Monteith Keeps Rising Charts

When Marissa Monteith was in eighth grade, her parents gave her an ultimatum: if she was going to give up softball, she would still have to play a school sport.

Monteith, now a junior at Macomb Dakota, recalled:

"My grandpa lives on a golf course and I've played golf for fun growing up. I guess I was pretty good at it, but never really took it seriously,"
until she got to high school.

She tried out for the golf team, and

"I don't even think the coach knew who I was at first."
Her parents' motivation was clear:
"My parents said there was no way I would just sit around after school and not do anything,"
she added.

Monteith summarized her situation:

"I wasn't about to sit around, either."

Author's summary: Marissa Monteith rises in golf charts.
