Protests against the direction of the country under President Donald Trump are planned nationwide, with the GOP referring to them as "hate America" rallies.
The "No Kings" demonstrations, the third mass mobilization since Trump's return to the White House, are expected to be the largest.
The protests come amidst a government shutdown that has closed federal programs and services, and is testing the balance of power between the executive, Congress, and the courts.
Organizers warn that the aggressive actions of the executive are a slide toward American authoritarianism.
Trump is currently away from Washington at his Mar-a-Lago home in Florida.
