Wyoming County Planners Approve Extension for Tunk Area Solar Project Land Plan

The Wyoming County Planning Commission granted a requested extension until January 31, 2026, for the submission of a land development plan regarding the Tunkhannock Area School District's proposed solar project.

Project engineers requested the extension to revise their plans for the site, according to county Planning Director Matthew Jones. This decision follows the Tunkhannock Area School Board's vote to "un-pause" plans for proposed solar projects at three sites in the district.

The board had previously paused those projects, pending confirmation that federal tax credits for solar energy, potentially worth $4.5 million, would be available.

The extension was granted to allow for revisions to the plans, with a new submission deadline of January 31, 2026.
