Prehistoric Hunting Traps Discovered in Europe
Archaeologists have discovered four large, funnel-like hunting traps on the Karst Plateau, located on the border of Slovenia and Italy.
The traps, made up of stone walls leading to an enclosed pit, were spotted through airborne laser scanning surveys conducted by Dimitrij Mlekuž Vrhovnik and Tomaž Fabec.
- The walls are made of stacked limestone, ranging in length from 550 yards to two miles long.
- The walls measure between three and five feet wide and once stood under three feet tall.
The researchers note that the structures were built into the landscape to take advantage of cliffs and other natural formations.
