The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health confirmed another case of a more severe strain of mpox in a local patient.
The patient, described as an adult, was hospitalized but is now recovering at home. This is the third case in the county and the only known non-travel infections in the United States.
County health officials verified the agency's first case of clade I mpox on Thursday, while Long Beach announced its first case on Tuesday.
No known history of travel to areas where the virus is usually found.
