Shining a Light on Mental Health: Bright Light Therapy’s Expanding Reach

New research presented at APNA 2025 highlights the therapy’s potential for managing a range of mental health conditions, from major depression to ADHD.

Bright light therapy (BLT), long recognized for its effectiveness in treating seasonal affective disorder (SAD), may offer far broader benefits for patients with mental health conditions, according to new research presented at the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA) 39th Annual Conference, held October 15–18, 2025, in New Orleans.

A comprehensive literature review found that BLT has shown promise in managing a range of conditions—including major depressive disorder, insomnia, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and Tourette’s syndrome—highlighting its growing role in psychiatric care.
