Health officials have confirmed the first case of the more severe clade I mpox strain in Los Angeles County.
The case involves an adult who had not recently traveled to areas where the virus typically circulates and was hospitalized, but is now recovering at home.
County officials are working with the California Department of Public Health and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to investigate the infections and prevent further spread.
Mpox, previously known as monkeypox, has two main strains — clade I and clade II.
