Government Launches First Digital ID
The UK government has rolled out the first digital ID as part of its plan to digitalise almost every form of ID in the country.
Last month, the government announced plans for digital ID cards, known as "Britcards", which will be introduced after a full consultation.
The new digital ID is part of a plan to tackle illegal immigration and will be used to verify a citizen's right to live and work in the UK.
- Under the new rules, anyone starting a new job in the UK must hold a digital ID.
- The first digital IDs, digital veteran cards, are available for ex-members of the armed services.
The digital veteran ID cards were presented at an event at the Tower of London, where Beefeaters showed off their new cards.
