A 13-year-old boy from Mosquito Grizzly Bear’s Head Lean Man First Nation, living in Saskatoon, was drinking daily and using Xanax when he accidentally shot and killed his friend with a .22 rifle.
The incident occurred on February 19, 2024, in a Saskatoon home, where the boy and his friends were taking photos and videos with the sawed-off rifle, pretending to be gangsters.
After the shooting, the boy's father called 911, reporting that the 13-year-old had fallen and cut his head, but paramedics soon discovered that the teen had been shot.
The victim, identified as F.M., was taken to hospital but died from the gunshot wound to the head.
The boy was under the influence of alcohol and Xanax when the rifle discharged, hitting his friend.
