County court improving, says government as it rejects call for review

Government Response to County Court Review

The government has rejected a call for a comprehensive review of the county court system, citing improvements in waiting times due to new digital services.

A report by the Commons justice committee in July had proposed 25 reforms, most of which have been accepted by HM Courts & Tribunals Service, including the expansion of remote hearings and replacement of information systems.

Reforms to the civil justice system are already cutting waiting times in the county court.

An action plan is underway to improve court contact services, although the government acknowledges that some waiting times for those claims that require a trial are too long.

Author's summary: Government rejects call for county court review.
