In the decades since June West Brandt's older brother was killed in World War II, she has always remembered her kind and artistic sibling.
Brandt, 93, was delighted to discover that a Dutch couple, Lisa and Guido Meijers, regularly visit a marker for her brother at a Netherlands cemetery.
“It’s wonderful for me to know that someone is there,”
said Brandt, who lives near Houston. This introduction came through a new initiative aiming to increase connections between family members of those buried and remembered at the WWII cemetery and the Dutch people who have adopted each one.
The project brings Americans and Dutch together to honor WWII relatives.
