Cost and Housing: Top Reasons for Pet Surrenders in Parksville
According to the BC SPCA, vet care expenses and housing issues are the two most common reasons for pet surrenders in Parksville.
In 2024, the Parksville-Qualicum Beach BC SPCA took in 43 stray and surrendered animals from within the city limits, with 25 being stray and the rest surrendered.
A lot of people are making the difficult decision to surrender their animals because they can’t afford the vet care that is needed.
The two primary reasons for surrendering an animal are:
- Unable to afford vet care expenses
- Moving or being evicted and unable to find pet-friendly housing
