US Equity Volatility and Trading
As US equity volatility decreased, trading also eased in the third quarter, according to the US Securities and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA).
All major US equity benchmarks showed strong increases, with quarterly gains ranging from 8.6% for the Dow Jones index to 17.1% for the Nasdaq.
- Nasdaq: up 21.8% year-over-year
- S&P 500: up 16% year-over-year
- Dow: up 11% year-over-year
Total equity capital formation rose 11.2% to $63.2 billion, the strongest quarter since the first three months of 2022.
Strong valuations contributed to the increase in new issuance.
