A new statewide awareness campaign has kicked off in Rochester, one of eight cities across Minnesota that will receive free carbon monoxide alarms to distribute to their communities.
The campaign is a result of federal funding secured by Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and has been decades in the making, following a tragic incident in 1996.
Cheryl Burt's two youngest boys, Nicholas and Zachary, died in their sleep after months of exposure to carbon monoxide.
Burt has since become a spokesperson for CO alarms, advocating for their importance in preventing similar tragedies.
