The Vatican has formally nominated judges for the canonical trial against Slovenian Father Marko Rupnik, who faces charges of spiritual and sexual abuse.
A communique from the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, led by Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández, announced the nomination of five judges on October 13.
The panel of judges is composed of women and clerics who are not members of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith and who hold no office within any of the dicasteries of the Roman Curia.
This move aims to ensure the autonomy and independence of the tribunal, as in every judicial proceeding.
