WNBA Star Paige Bueckers Coaches Clarksburg I-270 Boys Junior Team

The Clarksburg I-270 boys junior basketball team received an unexpected visit this week when WNBA Rookie of the Year and former UConn standout Paige Bueckers stepped in to help coach the team on Wednesday evening.

“When Bob Bueckers calls out sick and his daughter Paige comes to cover for the Clarksburg I-270 boys junior team,” said Brandon Childers, Area Director for Clarksburg I-270.

Bob Bueckers, an assistant coach for the team, was unable to attend due to illness and asked his daughter Paige to fill in. She happened to be in town for UConn’s game in Annapolis, making her appearance a perfect coincidence. Her younger brother, Drew, plays on the team, which made the evening particularly meaningful for the Bueckers family.

The family moved to Clarksburg about five years ago and has remained closely involved with the local basketball community.

Paige Bueckers, the top overall pick of the Dallas Wings, averaged 19.2 points, 5.4 assists, and 3.9 rebounds during her rookie season. She earned the 2025 WNBA Rookie of the Year award and All-WNBA honors, firmly establishing herself as one of the league’s emerging stars.

For the young Clarksburg players, having one of basketball’s most celebrated rising talents lead their drills was a moment they are unlikely to forget.
