Radio 2 presenter Sara Cox is preparing to take on a significant endurance challenge across Northern England for BBC Children in Need. Known for her relentless work ethic and positive attitude, these traits will be tested as she covers a distance equivalent to five marathons in five days.
From Monday to Friday, Sara will trek 135 miles, starting in Kielder Forest near the Scottish borders and concluding in Leeds. The journey aims to raise funds for the BBC's annual Children in Need campaign. Alongside her, she will carry the mascot Pudsey, named after the West Yorkshire town where graphic designer Joanna Lane created him.
“I'm not Mo Farah, I'm not going to be running these each day. I'm going to be doing a mixture of running, walking, a light trot and then just stumbling along doing ugly crying on the telly whilst possibly swearing quite a lot.”
Despite currently dealing with a knee issue, Sara remains determined:
“I'm just gonna have to crack on and do it. Nothing gets you to the gym like the thought of letting down lots of children, not raising money for charities, you know what I mean? National humiliation and letting everybody down. That really does make you pep up and pop your trainers on and go to the gym.”
This challenge is Radio 2’s longest ever undertaken, highlighting Sara's commitment to supporting children in need through physical endurance and personal motivation.
Author’s summary: Sara Cox prepares for a demanding 135-mile charity journey, motivated by a deep commitment to help children via BBC Children in Need despite physical challenges.
