Sara Cox's Children in Need Marathon Challenge

Radio 2 DJ Sara Cox is undertaking a demanding 135-mile challenge to support Children in Need. Starting from Kielder Forest near the Scottish borders, she plans to complete the journey on foot over five days, finishing in Pudsey, Leeds, by Friday, November 14.

Route and Distance

Sara’s “Great Northern Marathon Challenge” covers four counties: Northumberland, Durham, North Yorkshire, and West Yorkshire. Throughout the week, she will run, jog, and walk a total of 135 miles, carrying the Pudsey bear as a symbolic gesture.

Challenge Timeline

Inspiration and Purpose

Sara follows in the footsteps of her Radio 2 colleague Paddy McGuinness, who raised £10 million last year through a tough cycling challenge for the same cause. Unlike Paddy, Sara’s effort will be all on foot.

“We’re talking 135 miles of hills, moors and blisters – but I am ready for the challenge, and I will absolutely be giving it everything I’ve got!”

“When they picked me to get Pudsey to Pudsey, I was honoured and horrified in equal measure.”

Final Note

Sara hopes to complete her route just in time for the Children in Need broadcast on BBC One on Friday night, bringing the iconic Pudsey bear safely to Pudsey.
