This afternoon in Dandenong, a woman and a child tragically drowned after falling into a local creek near Allan Street around 3:45 p.m. According to witnesses, the pair were swept away by the current. It is believed the woman entered the water trying to rescue the child but also got into distress.
Police and emergency services searched the area and recovered both individuals from the creek. Rescuers immediately performed CPR, but despite their efforts, the two could not be revived and were pronounced dead at the scene.
The victims have not yet been formally identified. Authorities are preparing a report for the coroner.
