Roar striker intent on showing ‘quality’ against old club

Roar Striker Intent on Proving His Quality Against Former Club

Brisbane striker Justin Vidic denies having anything to prove to his former club Newcastle, but he is determined to demonstrate his “quality” after being released by the Jets last season.

After scoring just one goal in 13 A-League games with Newcastle, mostly coming off the bench, Vidic was not offered a new contract when Mark Milligan replaced Robbie Stanton as Jets coach.

Faced with uncertainty in his professional career, the 21-year-old seized the opportunity to trial with Brisbane Roar. His effort earned him a two-year deal, where his hardworking and traditional playing style fits well with coach Michael Valkanis's straightforward, physical tactics.

“These things happen for a reason. I’m sure I’ll show my quality. I don’t think I have anything to prove to them. They know what I’m capable of, and there are lots of people at the club that I still speak to and that I’m still close to. They know my potential and I want to show them that on Sunday.”

Vidic has started in two of Brisbane’s three matches this season and scored his first goal for the Roar in a 2-1 loss to Wellington last month.

“Starting in our past two games has been good for me.”

Summary

Justin Vidic aims to prove his value against his former team Newcastle despite limited success there, embracing a fresh start with Brisbane Roar's physical style.
