CJ McCollum's time in Washington seems to be shorter than fans first expected. When the season began, he was viewed as a veteran who could offer guidance to the Wizards' young players and bring stability to the team.
After several disappointing veteran signings in the past, including Kyle Kuzma and Malcolm Brogdon, supporters hoped McCollum might finally provide lasting leadership and a positive impact both on and off the court.
During preseason, McCollum appeared promising in limited minutes, showing flashes of being the scoring leader Washington needed. As the regular season started, optimism grew that he could become a steadying influence when games became difficult.
However, the first six games have painted a different picture. The Lehigh product has averaged 14.2 points, 3.7 assists, and 3.7 rebounds while shooting 37.2% from the field and 38.5% from three-point range.
Though these numbers might seem respectable, especially for a 34-year-old adjusting to a new team, McCollum’s presence on the floor has not delivered the expected boost. Instead, his performance has occasionally disrupted the Wizards’ offensive rhythm, limiting their overall cohesion.
"Early signs suggest McCollum's stint in the DMV may be more short-lived than originally thought."
McCollum’s brief time with Washington has yet to meet expectations, hinting that his stay could end sooner than anticipated if his play does not stabilize the team.
