Recently released evidence from the Idaho State Police includes more than 2,300 pages of materials, among which are the first publicly shown photos of the Ka-Bar knife sheath linked to Bryan Kohberger.
The brown leather Ka-Bar sheath was discovered at 1122 King Road in Moscow, Idaho, after the murders of four University of Idaho students—Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin—on November 13, 2022.
It was this crucial piece of evidence that led to the killer’s downfall, as forensic genetic genealogy traced DNA on the sheath to Bryan Kohberger.
The images reveal a brown leather case featuring a USMC military emblem and measuring under 15 inches in length. Investigators identified DNA on the sheath as belonging to Kohberger, a 30-year-old criminology PhD student.
Kohberger ordered the Ka-Bar knife and its sheath from Amazon in March 2022—months before the killings and shortly before relocating from his family home in Albrightsville, Pennsylvania, to Pullman, Washington. The knife itself has never been recovered.
The newly released sheath photos provide a chilling look into the evidence that helped investigators identify Bryan Kohberger as the suspect in the University of Idaho murders.
