Christian Estrosi, mayor of Nice and president of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, has raised concerns about the impact of the Social Security Financing Bill (PLFSS) for 2026 on medical practitioners.
Article 26 of the PLFSS allows the government to increase by decree the social contributions on doctors' fee supplements, currently set at 3.25%. This planned rise has sparked strong reactions among liberal specialists.
Medical professionals are threatening a nationwide strike from January 11 to 14, 2026. The strike, named “Operation Brussels,” could involve nearly 20,000 practitioners across France, including around a thousand in Alpes-Maritimes. Some doctors are even considering relocating to Belgium in response.
"This measure would exacerbate the difficulties already faced by doctors and could worsen inequalities in healthcare access."
Estrosi directly challenges the government, emphasizing the risk this contribution increase poses to the already strained medical sector and the broader health system.
