Hemel Hempstead MP David Taylor recently met with Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood to discuss strategies for reducing crime and antisocial behavior in the town, following several significant police operations in Hertfordshire.
During the meeting, Mr Taylor advocated for Hemel Hempstead to be selected as a pilot area for the Government’s new Respect Orders. These orders are designed to grant police enhanced powers to manage persistent offenders and nuisance behavior effectively.
“Our community is a place to be proud of, but residents tell me antisocial behaviour continues to blight parts of Hemel Hempstead, and residents have had enough. I made it clear to the Home Secretary that Hemel should be at the front of the queue for the Respect Order pilot so we can take tougher action against those who make life miserable for others.”
Mr Taylor highlighted the importance of close cooperation between local authorities, housing associations, and police forces, especially after the recent enforcement operations in Hemel Hempstead.
“Recent major operations by Hertfordshire Police have shown what can be achieved when agencies work together. That joined-up approach is essential if we’re to make lasting progress in tackling crime and restoring confidence in our community.”
He also paid tribute to Hertfordshire Police for their professionalism and commitment in protecting local residents.
“Our officers do an outstanding job under immense pressure.”
