Ceremonies are planned in several local cities, including Hamilton, Burlington, and Brantford, to honor Remembrance Day and reflect on the sacrifices of veterans. Most federal services and federally regulated businesses like banks and postal services will be closed on November 11.
An event commemorating Indigenous Veteran’s Day will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, November 7, at Battlefield House Museum and Park, 77 King St.
“This service acknowledges and commemorates the contributions made by Indigenous veterans in service to Turtle Island,” said the City of Hamilton in a news release.
The ceremony at the Eagles Among Us Indigenous Monument will be followed by refreshments featuring Indigenous flavors. Attendees are asked to bring their own chairs as seating is limited.
The city’s garrison parade will start at 10:15 a.m. on November 9, followed by a service at 10:45 a.m. The parade, including Hamilton veterans, garrison units, and cadet corps, will begin at the John Foote V.C. N. location and proceed south to Gore Park on King Street East.
The Remembrance Day service will take place at Veteran’s Place in Gore Park.
