Uber is set to launch a premium robotaxi service in San Francisco, competing directly with Waymo, which has dominated the area.
The service will utilize Lucid Motors' all-electric Gravity SUVs, equipped with self-driving technology developed by Nuro, and is scheduled to launch in 2026.
"The Bay Area has long been the birthplace of transformative technology, and it's only fitting that Uber's next-generation robotaxi program with Lucid and Nuro will begin here — launching to the public next year,"
said Uber chief product officer Sachin Kansal.
The announcement was made at TechCrunch Disrupt 2025 in San Francisco, where Nuro president and co-CEO Dave Ferguson and Sachin Kansal are scheduled to be interviewed.
Uber's move into San Francisco's robotaxi market puts the company in direct competition with Waymo.
