Scream 2 is overall a fantastic sequel, but this scene stands out as the product of a rewrite, and it almost derails the whole thing.
Most fans of Wes Craven’s Scream franchise would agree that Scream 2 is a little more tightly paced than the original film.
The original Scream (1996) has two distinct halves: the first introduces primary characters like Sidney Prescott, Dewey Riley, Gale Weathers, Tatum Riley, Billy Loomis, Stu Macher, and Randy Meeks, while the second half takes place at Stu’s house, where suspicions are confirmed with a twist.
In contrast, Scream 2 is a bit more crowded but follows a more traditional structure.
Part of the charm of Scream (1996) is that it doesn’t really follow a three-act structure as much as it has two distinct halves.
Author's summary: Scream 2 has a tightly paced structure but one bad scene.
