Labor's Double Standard on Smelter Support
The Tasmanian Government has criticized the Albanese Labor Government for its double standards in supporting aluminum smelters.
Felix Ellis, Minister for Business, Industry and Resources, stated that the federal government is considering a billion-dollar bailout for the Tomago aluminium smelter in New South Wales, while ignoring calls to support Bell Bay Aluminium in Tasmania.
The Federal Government is bending over backwards to support Tomago, reportedly considering a billion-dollar bailout, yet it won’t lift a finger to help Bell Bay Aluminium, the only renewable-powered smelter in the country.
Minister Ellis emphasized that Tasmania has invested in renewable energy and supported its workers to keep Bell Bay strong.
