Valeri Nichushkin Shines in Avalanche's Shootout Loss
Valeri Nichushkin's performance on Thursday night was nothing short of magnificent, with the phrase "C'est magnifique" perfectly encapsulating his play.
The Avalanche, donning their Quebec Nordiques throwbacks for the first time, struggled with turnovers and defending early on, as well as power-play issues throughout the game. However, Nichushkin's late-game heroics helped the team steal a point in a 5-4 shootout loss to the Carolina Hurricanes at Ball Arena.
Nichushkin's second goal of the night, scored on the team's seventh power-play opportunity, allowed Colorado to claw back from a 4-1 deficit at 14:09 of the third period. Avalanche coach Jared Bednar praised Nichushkin's performance, saying:
I thought he was having a great game, maybe his best of the yearThis led to Nichushkin's promotion to the top power-play unit, where he ultimately scored the game-tying goal.
