A new documentary film, facilitated by a Sonoma couple, explores U.S.-Japan relations through their shared love of baseball, gaining acclaim at film festivals across the United States.
The film, "Diamond Diplomacy," was made possible with the help of Doug and Megumi Inouye, a Japanese American couple who moved to Sonoma in 2019, and are friends of the film's director, Yuriko Gamo Romer, and former athlete Masanori "Mashi" Murakami.
The film features Masanori "Mashi" Murakami, the first native Japanese to play in the U.S. in 1964, as a San Francisco Giants left-handed pitcher.
This documentary comes as baseball fever rises with the upcoming World Series, featuring Japanese superstar Shohei Ohtani.
