Kildare Writer Wins Prestigious Literary Prize
Brenda Drumm from Newbridge, Co Kildare has won the Memoir section of the Write by the Sea annual writing competition.
Drumm, a former presenter of the Arts Show on Kildare's KFM radio station, was awarded the prize at the Write by the Sea Literary Festival in Kilmore Quay, Co Wexford.
For the reader there is no looking away. The skill of the writing ensures we stay with the narrator and are moved by writing that treats a most difficult subject with both tenderness and an unflinching rigour.
Her winning memoir piece, 'In Heaven There Are Beaches', is a 1,000-word work that impressed the judges with its tender and rigorous writing.
Drumm was presented with her award and read her work at the official opening of the festival on Friday, September 26.
