A resolution authorizing a contract for a new exhibit about the 1908 Springfield race riot was approved at the Springfield-Sangamon County board meeting.
The exhibit will be displayed at the Springfield-Sangamon County Transportation Hub.
The 1908 riots erupted after two Black men accused of rape were transferred to another city, leading to an angry mob attacking Black neighborhoods, resulting in deaths and destruction of homes and businesses.
It's an extremely sensitive subject and they've just handled it so, so well. We are so lucky to have them as a partner in this project, it's gotten rave reviews from everyone involved in it.
Sangamon County Board Chairman praised the exhibit.
