Dr. Heather Parsons to Lead Fred Hutch's Breast Cancer Initiatives

Medical oncologist Dr. Heather Parsons, MD, MPH, has joined Fred Hutch Cancer Center as program head of the Breast Oncology Program.

Dr. Parsons' motivation to specialize in oncology, specifically breast cancer treatment and research, stems from her personal experience. Her younger sister was diagnosed with lymphoma as a young adult, and later with melanoma in childhood, which gave her insight into the impact of cancer on families.

Parsons' desire to help improve that experience for patients and their families led her to specialize in oncology.

As a medical oncologist, Dr. Parsons understands that patients often work with the same oncology team for months or even years, depending on the progression of the illness and response to treatment.
