Montana Celebrates Indigenous Peoples' Day
For the first time, Montana officially commemorates Indigenous Peoples' Day as a legal holiday.
After a decade of advocacy, Republican Gov. Greg Gianforte signed Senate Bill 224 into law, establishing the day alongside Columbus Day.
Though people have celebrated Indigenous Peoples’ Day in Montana for years, Monday marks the first time the state has officially commemorated the day as a legal holiday.
October 13 marks the first official observation of the day as a legal holiday in the state.
