Indonesian Shrimp Packer Agrees to Pay Laid-Off Staff

Indonesian shrimp packer Panca Mitra Multi Perdana (PMMP) has agreed to pay outstanding wages and severance to hundreds of laid-off staff.

PMMP was under scrutiny in September after more than 200 former employees reported not receiving wages, severance pay, and other entitlements following layoffs.

The local council ruled it would declare the business bankrupt for not paying outstanding wages and severance.

PMMP has asked for six months to pay the outstanding wages and severance, and has recently rebranded as Landangan Makmur Situbondo.

A lawyer representing the laid-off staff claimed the rebranding was an effort to avoid paying the owed amount.

Author's summary: PMMP agrees to pay laid-off staff after bankruptcy threat.
