Thomas Tuchel clarified why Myles Lewis-Skelly was left out of the recent England squad for November's international matches. The Arsenal defender has not received enough regular playing time this season, which influenced the decision.
Last season, Lewis-Skelly's notable performances for Arsenal earned him his first senior England call-ups, including under Tuchel's management. However, due to limited opportunities at club level this season, his inclusion was unlikely.
At Arsenal, Riccardo Calafiori has overcome previous injuries to become a regular left-back starter, further reducing chances for Lewis-Skelly. The omission may allow Nico O'Reilly from Manchester City a chance to debut against Serbia or Albania.
"Myles was a very good team-mate and played for us in the last camp in the World Cup qualifier in Riga, so was Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Morgan Gibbs-White, and James Trafford. But I said last time there is a component to it that it's about competition and performance, and the door is always open for guys who perform on a regular and high level."
Thomas Tuchel explained that Myles Lewis-Skelly's limited game time at Arsenal and ongoing competition factors led to his exclusion from the England squad, emphasizing performance as key.
