Strong weather is affecting B.C.'s South Coast and Lower Mainland Thursday morning, with overlapping warnings in place.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a rainfall warning for parts of Metro Vancouver, including the North Shore, Coquitlam, Maple Ridge, and Howe Sound.
Michael Kuss, Meteorologist at 1130 NewsRadio, notes the heaviest rain is expected during Thursday afternoon's commute.
“An additional 20 to 40 mm of rainfall can be expected before the rain eases off later this evening,” said the ECCC. “Water will likely pool on roads and in low-lying areas. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic. Local utility outages are possible.”
A wind warning is in effect for Richmond, Delta, the Sunshine Coast, and much of eastern Vancouver Island, with winds potentially reaching speeds of 70 to 90 km/h.
The ECCC advises residents to “secure loose objects” as winds are expected to calm by evening.
Heavy rain and strong winds pose challenges for travel and safety across B.C.'s South Coast today, with potential traffic delays and utility disruptions.
