Strong winds are forecast to hit Metro Vancouver starting today, prompting Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) to issue a wind warning with gusts reaching up to 90 km/h.
The warning accompanies an earlier rainfall alert caused by consecutive low-pressure systems affecting B.C.'s South Coast mid-week. ECCC stated:
“Strong winds that may cause damage are expected. A strong low-pressure system will impact coastal B.C. this afternoon, generating very strong southeasterly winds of 70 km/h gusting to 90.”
Winds are expected to weaken below warning levels by early evening but remain gusty from the southwest until Friday morning.
The wind warning extends across a broad area of B.C., including parts of East Vancouver Island, the Sunshine Coast, Greater Victoria, and the Gulf Islands.
BC Ferries is monitoring the intensifying storm and advises travellers to check service notices for updates on cancellations:
“Keep an eye on the intensifying storm” and visit the service notices page for potential route changes.
