Jordan Staal set a new record for most games played as a member of the Carolina Hurricanes and experienced an eventful night that included a rare fight. Despite missing a portion of the game, the evening turned out positively as the Hurricanes defeated the Minnesota Wild 4-3.
The Carolina captain took the ice for his 910th game in a Hurricanes uniform, surpassing his brother Eric Staal’s total. At 37 years old, Jordan Staal now ranks third in franchise history for games played, counting the team's earlier years as the Hartford Whalers. He trails only Ron Francis with 1,186 games and Glen Wesley with 913.
“I appreciate the boys battling it out for me there,” Staal said. “Getting a good memory out of a milestone game and getting the two points. It has been a lot of fun with these guys here and all the other teammates I’ve played with. It has been a joy and blessing, and I’m just happy to keep going.”
Before joining Carolina, Staal spent his first six NHL seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins, further establishing himself as one of hockey’s durable and respected leaders.
